Mistrust is the only tax rate that is decided and paid voluntarily by people who maintain it. The formula goes like that: Produced success minus energy spent on politics minus time spent on hidden agenda minus being scared minus being cynical minus complaining time minus dirty tactics minus producing fake news minus being sorry for ourselves minus many more value destroying things that you can think of… = much less or no success at all. Organizations based on trust are different...
We don’t do change just for fun. We do change for more success. Success over time. And when we go through different phases, we typically see two extreme reactions in out teams: one that is pushing the change because they believe the success and the other one that is defending the old by using different tricks to slow it slow it down or to even stop it. There is an proverb that I have seen last year in La Spezia in Italy. It says: When you dream a dream alone, it will remain just a dream. When we dream a dream together, it will become a reality. But it is not only about a dream becoming reality, it is also about going together through the change curve. Every NEW is a challenge to the OLD and to those who hang on to it. And they hang on to the old because it was successful so far. So, what is the best way to face this challenge?
magic change button
When I talk about the change with executives, I hear complaints: It is too slow! All teams still work in silos! They don’t buy it! There is no Pull! I need to push all the times! Then, with a spark in their eyes, they say: I wish I had a magic change button. You know, like back then when I was a kid. We all believed we can be super heroes and we can do magic things. And we did. We had fun and we felt like we can conquer the world. Do you remember those times, too? In fact, children all over the world, across countries, cultures and religions are like that . They all believe in magic and they believe in their own magical power. Only at the age of 7, it starts to diminish . They see more risks and obstacles around, and they have a hard time to believe that they can do amazing things . This - lost - magic is what makes the magic change button work...
